With your faithful love, you will lead the people you have redeemed; you will guide them to your holy dwelling with your strength.

Exodus 15:13

In uncertain circumstances and difficult times, we are tempted to doubt God’s love for us. We are tempted to believe that God doesn’t know best or that He doesn’t care about us. We doubt His goodness, His love, and His sovereignty over our predicament. This is evidenced as we display worry, fear, and anxiety and run to other people and things rather than the God who reigns supreme over all things.

But, it is exactly in these moments that we must remember the One who saved and delivered us. We must bring to remembrance who our God is and His faithful acts towards us. The Israelites in Exodus 15:13 remind us in song to do exactly this.

They remember together that their God is continually faithful and overflowing with love. This reality has been demonstrated vividly as God has just delivered and redeemed them from the Egyptians. Had God not intervened the Israelites would have surely been annihilated.

This belief about who God is and what He’s done forms the basis of their future hope. God will continue to faithfully lead his people towards their holy dwelling. He will sustain them as His people look to Him and no other.

As God’s people today we have the same hope as the Israelites. We look to the character of our God which never changes. We look to His awesome deeds. We look to the salvation He’s provided for us in the person and work of Jesus Christ.

These realities give us confidence that the same God who saves will surely lead and sustain us until we reach our eternal dwelling.
